Indiana Defense Task Force Overview
The Indiana Defense Task Force was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2019 to support and promote Indiana’s defense ecosystem and to streamline processes related to the retention of military installations and the continued development of installation communities. The Task Force is statutorily required to undertake the following duties:
- Identify public infrastructure needs and opportunities to support installation communities and mission efficiencies.
- Identify existing and potential impacts of encroachment on military installations.
- Identify potential state and local government actions that can minimize the impacts of encroachment and enhance the long-term potential of installations and their surrounding communities in Indiana.
- Identify opportunities for the state, political subdivisions, military contractors and academic institutions to collaborate on efforts related to installations and community development.
- Study how governmental entities outside Indiana have addressed issues regarding encroachment and partnership formation.
The Task Force is required to submit a report annually to the Governor and the Indiana General Assembly on their identified findings.
