INDIANAPOLIS (Dec. 2, 2024) – Indiana Secretary of Commerce David Rosenberg will lead an international economic development trip to the United Kingdom and Italy this week in pursuit of advancing global partnerships and innovation surrounding future-focused industries, with a particular focus on life sciences.

continues to grow, thanks in large part to our robust future-focused ecosystems
like life sciences,” said Sec. Rosenberg. “Hoosier innovators, industries and
communities have been significantly impacted by our strong relationships with
both the United Kingdom and Italy, and I look forward to advancing these
partnerships abroad this week, creating even more opportunities for our
businesses and residents to prosper.”
Sec. Rosenberg, who will arrive in
London today, will be joined by BioCrossroads CEO and President Vince Wong,
Conexus Indiana Chief Operating and Strategy Officer Bryce Carpenter, as well
as representatives of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) based
in Indianapolis and business development directors in the UK and Europe.
In London, which has been named the best city in Europe and third in the world for life sciences, Sec. Rosenberg and the delegation will highlight Indiana’s recent momentum in the industry and pursue new opportunities for collaboration and growth. The secretary will be a featured speaker at an investor-hosted event – Building a World Class Life Science Ecosystem – joining representatives of Eli Lilly and Company and Mathys & Squire and will meet with leadership of MedCity, the cluster organization for London’s health and life sciences sector. The delegation will also participate in Genesis 2024, an annual conference convening life science opinion leaders and stakeholders to debate key trends, instigate deals and generate a vision of the future, and Sec. Rosenberg will join a fireside chat at the conference to discuss the industry’s global landscape and Indiana’s growing leadership position.
Sec. Rosenberg and the delegation
will also meet with UK government officials and industry leaders, including
representatives of the UK Department for Business and Trade and Scotland House
London – a collaboration between the Scottish government, Scottish enterprise,
Visit Scotland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise – to discuss the strong
Indiana-UK partnership. Indiana is home to 101 UK-based business facilities
specializing in industries like aerospace, energy, life sciences, manufacturing
and technology, while the UK hosts operations of 22 Indiana-based businesses.
Moore than $3.83 billion worth of goods were exchanged between the two regions
in 2023.
In Italy, the delegation will
travel to Rome, the country’s capital, and Milan, the capital of the country’s
Lombardy region. In Milan, the secretary will meet with senior officials of the
Lombardy region, including President Attilio Fontana, to discuss the strong
ties Indiana shares with the region’s government and industry and to explore
opportunities for continued economic, academic and cultural partnership. Sec.
Rosenberg and the delegation will also visit Assolombarda, Italy’s largest
territorial association of the entire entrepreneurial system, to meet with its
R&D department as well as member companies, hubs and universities
particularly within the life sciences space, and will.
In Rome, the delegation will meet
with U.S. and Italian government leaders, including representatives of the U.S.
Embassy in Rome, to discuss opportunities to build on Indiana’s long and rich
history with Italy. Indiana is home to 35 Italian business facilities,
including many focused in racing and the mobility supply chain, including
companies like Dallara, Sirmax, Coram USA and OMR Automotive. Indiana and Italy
also share a strong trade partnership, importing and exporting more than $5.16
billion worth of goods in 2023, with top products including chemicals,
machinery, metals, transportation equipment and computer and electronic parts.
