Indiana continues its investment in a cleaner hydrogen economy with the hydrogen hub initiative in the Midwest, which aims to decarbonize and strengthen the regional economy, complementing other similar programs. The Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen
(MachH2) is a multi-state coalition of public and private entities representing every phase in the hydrogen value chain to produce clean, carbon-free hydrogen. The alliance submitted an application to the Department of Energy (DOE) in November 2022 to
develop a regional clean hydrogen production and distribution hub in the Midwest, which was supported and encouraged by the DOE in December 2022.
In February 2023, MachH2 announced it had joined forces with the Indiana-led Midwest Hydrogen Corridor Consortium as a single Midwestern hub. The pairing of these coalitions will help create a strong mobility-corridor linkage across Illinois,
Indiana, and Michigan, driving efficiency and creating an opportunity to scale to neighboring states.
MachH2 is committed to fostering the implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law- incorporating the key policy principles within projects to be specific, actionable, and measurable. The coalition will focus on community engagement, workforce development, and environmental justice in its community benefit plan to ensure broadly shared prosperity in the clean energy transition.
